I also wanted to promote the Run For Jim on May 20th. It is a 5K (3.1 miles) and a flat course. It would be fun to have a group of us do it this year. We can make more Hot Mama t-shirts! If you are considering it, go to http://halhigdon.com/training/ and look at the 5K training programs. He has them for Novice, Intermediate, Advanced and Walkers and they are 8 weeks long. So, that would mean your first week would start March 26th. We could aim to meet up and do some group runs too – maybe on a sunday evening? Even if you haven’t been to class in a while, please come and join us for the run!
On another note, if anyone is interested in competing in either The Warrior Dash or Spartan Race, let me know. These are 5K races where there are obstacles in your way. They have become popular and look like a lot of fun. From what I have heard, the emphasis is on helping people, rather than winning.
I also found a very interesting article online discussing the two women below. Supposedly they both have around the same body fat, but the woman on the left looks like she subsists on caffeine and cigarettes, whereas the woman on the right looks like she can rescue your child from a burning building and run with her on her back up Mt. Washington! I made some of my own conclusions as well from the photos. So many woman are focused purely on weight and “dieting”. It is so much better to be focused on health and building a strong body that can keep up with all of the things that you want to accomplish in life. Setting goals such as increasing your number of pushups, jumping rope more times in one minute or running a faster mile will bring your more satisfaction than focusing on a number on the scale. I think that the woman on the right probably gets to have a lot more fun. If she is a mom, she can definitely keep up with her kids. She can play as hard as they can and not get injured. She also probably gets to eat ice cream and cupcakes once in a while. She is also building bone density which will help her later in life. So, I just want to applaud all of you who are working to build your strength and improve your health through exercise. There are rarely any negative sides to taking charge of your health. It will make you a better person, a better mother and you will create better memories for your children because you won’t be on the sidelines watching them run around and have fun, you will be a part of it.
