Hate to Clean?

I have never considered myself a neat freak type of person, but I do appreciate certain standards of cleanliness in my home.  I don’t like to stick to the floor or see piles of dog hair in the corners or have my toilets stained.  It doesn’t seem like much to ask, but since starting a family, the stickiness, piles and stains have become more prevalent.  The weeks that I do manage to stay on top of the basics, I feel pretty good, but getting to any of that “deep” cleaning that people talk about never really happened for me.  Call it a lack of priority and I would say “guilty” as charged.  Despite the fact that my kids think that I like to clean, I don’t.  Given the chance to go outside or really do anything at all, I don’t put it high on the to-do list.

The problem is that I feel much better when my house is clean.  It really brings me serenity.  As I was lamenting this one day at my Hot Mama class, one of my friends (shout out to Shannon) mentioned this new 20 minute a day cleaning plan that she was doing.  So, I thought that I would give it a whirl.   I have been doing it for three months now and I love it.  I have it on my refrigerator and every day I look at the list and it tells me exactly what I have to do.  I set the timer and go.  I rarely go past the 20 minutes.  I just stop when the timer goes off.  I can’t really explain it, but it really has brought a lot of happiness to my life.  I no longer feel like cleaning is hanging over my head.  I just do a little every day and it eventually gets done.

No one is paying me to write this – I swear.  I just wanted to share a little tip that has made my time management more manageable.  Who wants to spend the weekend cleaning?  Here is the link http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/the-schedule-house-cleaning-in-131142

Do your 20 minutes and you will have time to do the other things you enjoy.
